In 2001, while I was Pop Music Critic at the Buffalo News, I did a phone interview with Destiny's Child members, Beyoncé Knowles, Kelly Rowland, and Michelle Williams, about the group's 8 Days of Christmas album. I really liked the album at the time, because I thought the tracks and vocal arrangements were unexpectedly interesting. Plus, I was impressed that Beyoncé produced and arranged much of the album herself.

Here's an excerpt from the interview where I speak with Beyoncé and, briefly, Kelly. It was a short interview. (In fact, you can hear the group's publicist rushing me.) We didn't get into anything juicy, which, I know, is unexpected for me. But this was before the rumors really got going about Beyoncé and Jay-Z, so there wasn't a whole lot of personal stuff to talk about. Also, the interview took place shortly after 9/11, and I can remember that there was a muted quality to all of my interviews around this time.

But, listening to the interview for the first time in years, I still think it's fun to hear B talk about her artistic process. Hope you enjoy it too - Craig
