Grimes at the Empty Bottle in Chicago

I saw Grime's excellent show at the Empty Bottle in Chicago and caught her after the show for a quick photo.

R.I.P. B.I.G. #3

I got this at the 1995 Million Man March.

R.I.P. B.I.G. #2

I remember going to this listening party for the posthumous "Born Again" album. The whole crowd lost it when the DJ premiered "Biggie."

R.I.P. B.I.G.

I was devastated when my favorite rapper, The Notorious B.I.G., was murdered 15 years ago today. A few days after his death, I traveled to L.A. and visited the Petersen Automotive Museum where he was tragically gunned down. I took pictures and was moved by all the flowers and fan tributes. One in particular struck me, because it spoke to senseless regional divide that was tearing hip-hop apart. It read: "To Biggie Smalls, from your loving fans on the West Coast."

My fave Biggie song. I still remember the first time I heard it as the B-side to the cassingle of "Juicy." I felt like my life and all of hip-hop music had irrevocably changed.

Zola Jesus in Chicago

Recently I had the chance to shoot the amazing Zola Jesus for ChicagoShopping.com. Here are some of my favorite shots. For more of my photography, go to www.craigseymourphotography.com.

My Photos from the 1986 New York Music Awards

As a teenager, I attended the first New York Music Awards in 1986. It was held at Madison Square Garden. My primary intention was to meet Madonna so that we could become the best friends that I thought we were destined to be. It turned out that she was a no-show. But I still had a good time, stalking the entrance and taking pictures with a disposable camera that I picked up at Penn Station. Here are three of my favorite shots. It cracks me up that I still take the same kind of pictures.

(John "Jellybean" Benitez: If I couldn't see Madonna, at least I got to see her former boyfriend. Besides, his Wotupski cassette was fixture in my Walkman.)

(DMC of RUN DMC: He walked in with a bag of take-out. Hilarious!)

(Alisha: The super-dope Freestyle princess. I wore the grooves out of every one of her early 12"s.)

FAVORITE JOINTZ

Jellybean - "Dancing on the Fire"

Run DMC - "Rock Box"

Alisha - "Too Turned On"

An Ode to the Six Boys I've Loved

(a drawing one of the boys made for me)

Ode to the Six Boys I've Loved
By Craig Seymour

XXXX: 1975
The first grader who broke this second grader's heart. I've never gotten over your blond hair, blue eyes, and the mean way you said goodbye.

XXXXX: 1985
The boy who taught me how to do guy stuff like climb rocks. Remember the time you let me spike your hair? I did it just to touch you.

XXXX: 1986
The boy I met when he was new in town. The boy who showed me the sunken hollow in his chest.

Remember when we rode across country--you played James Taylor, I played Madonna and Bananarama?

The boy who once stopped his car in the middle of D.C. traffic just to give me flowers. The boy I still think about whenever someone speaks of love.

XXXX: 1989
The boy who loved me back the most. The boy I couldn't stay faithful to.

XXXXXX: 2000
The boy I met while dancing to Monica's "The First Night." The boy who came on to me. The boy I loved sticking my penis in. But, dude, it was way too complicated!

XXXXXX: 2007
The boy who most resembled the boy of my dreams. The boy who drew me pictures and let me take pictures of him.

The boy who I will always love, even if that boy no longer lives in the person he has become.
