My Favorite Songs of 2013, So Far

So, it's mid-June, a good time to start taking stock of the musical year. I've been writing about songs since Brandy's O.G. beef with Monica and I swear that there has never been a better time for music. There's so much innovative, give-no-fuks stuff out there, and it's coming from so many places--blogs, Bandcamp, Soundcloud, Spotify, and now Jigga's new Samsung shit.

Anyway, here are the tracks that I've been feeling the most this year. I know it's missing some big names (Daft Punk's "Fragments of Time" and Disclosure's "White Noise" just missed the cut.) But this is based on shit that I actually play. Men lie; women lie; iTunes don't!

1. James Blake - "Retrograde"

2. A.S.A.P. Rocky - "Wild For The Night"

3. fthrsn - "Middle School Dance"

4. Fossil - "The Times They Never Change"

5. Kurt Vile - "Wakin' On A Pretty Day"

6. Shak - "Things U Do"

7. Majical Cloudz - "Childhood's End"

8. Haim - "Falling"

9. Phoenix - "Trying To Be Cool"
(Sorry, can't find video/audio of the album version, but you can Spotify)

10. max basic - "that's all she said"

11. Mutya, Keisha & Siobhan - "Lay Down In Swimming Pools"

12. Drake - "Girls Love Beyoncé (Chopped Up Not Slopped Up By OG Ron C)"

13. Dyme-A-Duzin (w/ The Underachievers & Flatbush Zombies) - "New Brooklyn (Remix)"

14. Ghibli - "Carrying"

15. Ariana Grande (w/ Mac Miller) - "The Way"

16. One Direction - "Little Things (Teen Witch Fan Club Edit)"

17. Different Sleep - "Get Ahead"

18. It Is Rain In My Face - "And The Names"

19. Teedra Moses - "Be Your Girl (Kaytranada Edition)

20. Young Man - "Waterford"
(Spotify only, sadly. But it's worth clicking the link.  It's a sweet yet melancholy meditation on days gone by. And this is a photo that I took of the group at Lolla a couple of years ago)

21. Katy Perry - "Wide Awake (Groundislava Cool Mix)"

22. Real Magic - "The Ghost"

23. Kris Kasanova - "Like It's '88"

24. Julia Brown - "library"

25. LiL TExAS - "Talkin 2 U"
